Introduction to fe-safe

Course Objective

This course is intended to introduce the new users to how to perform fatigue simulations using fe-safe. At the end of the course, users will develop the skills needed to prepare fatigue models, define load conditions, select the appropriate algorithms, and visualize the results in an FEA postprocessor. Topics covered include:

  • Review of fatigue theories, including stress/strain life, factor of strength, FRF methods
  • Importing results from external FEA software
  • Preparing models for fatigue simulations
  • Applying loading cycles and sequences; block loading; histories; signal processing
  • Choosing the correct algorithms
  • Fatigue behavior of materials and database
  • Introduction to weld fatigue using the Verity module
  • Results export and visualization
  • File structure, command lines, and batch processing

The course will be a combination of lectures and workshops

Who should attend:

This course is for engineers, designers, and analysts who want to perform dedicated fatigue simulations as an extension to their FEA work. A working background in the finite element method, previous experience with FEA software, and having an existing FEA software (Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran, etc.) available are strongly recommended. An understanding of fracture/fatigue analysis is an asset.
