Technical Scope

What the Webinar Covers

Part 1 covers the flow and thermal behaviour with CFD. Part 2 uses the resulting temperature distribution in a coupled transient thermal-structural analysis.

01 / CFD

Computational Fluid Dynamics

  • Fluid-flow analysis of the counter-flow shell-and-tube heat exchanger
  • Velocity and pressure drop within the tubes and shell side
  • Thermal gradients of the heat exchanger tubes
02 / FEA

Finite Element Analysis

  • Use the CFD temperature distribution to evaluate thermal gradients in the heat exchanger vessel
  • Apply the thermo-mechanical properties of the heat exchanger material
  • Evaluate thermal stresses using coupled transient thermal-structural analysis
CFD Result Temperature Distribution
FEA Input Thermal Input for Structural Analysis
The CFD temperature distribution is carried into the coupled transient thermal-structural analysis.
